SUSTAINABILITY SCHOOL #7 - Green transition in Romania
Description
It is estimated that, globally, over 50 billion greenhouse gases (GHGs) are emitted into the atmosphere every year. While some greenhouse gases occur naturally, since the Industrial Revolution, humans have increased their concentration to unsustainable levels. As a result, there is now more carbon dioxide in our atmosphere than at any point in human history.
Climate change is already manifesting (droughts, wildfires, floods, resource shortages, and species loss, among other effects) and is progressing rapidly. These phenomena cause loss of human lives and significant material damage. The current way we use resources is unsustainable and places immense pressure on our planet, which is why we are facing a triple planetary crisis—climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution—interconnected negative phenomena with a major impact on the quality of life on Earth.
It is urgent to facilitate the transition to a green economy. How can NGOs and companies contribute?
