The EU has developed measures to address the climate and energy crises. In 2022, political negotiators concluded discussions on various files within the “Fit for 55” package – the EU’s political framework for implementing its goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030. These negotiations took place in a political context dominated by the EU's response to the energy crisis resulting from the war in Ukraine. For example, emergency measures and the RepowerEU plan focused on increasing renewable energy, improving energy efficiency, and developing hydrogen. Innovative companies across Europe have been very active in driving these political developments to ensure that the EU develops a suitable policy framework to achieve its climate goals and places the ecological transition at the center of the EU’s response to the energy crisis.

Another growing theme is the development of the Green Industrial Plan, the EU’s response to the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act. The aim of the plan is to support the transition to climate neutrality for the European industrial sector with net-zero emissions and to boost its competitiveness.

With all these political developments, the EU has the opportunity to simultaneously achieve and address goals related to climate, energy, and competitiveness. How can it accomplish these? How do companies position themselves regarding these issues?
