The race to limit global warming to 1.5°C is underway, and achieving this goal requires greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to decrease by 50% by 2030 and reach net zero by 2050. To support these objectives, the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) helps private-sector companies adopt ambitious climate goals grounded in scientific evidence, thereby mobilizing urgent action to protect the environment.

Science-based targets provide companies with a clear roadmap for reducing emissions, helping mitigate climate risks while ensuring sustainable economic growth. The number of companies committing to net-zero emissions is growing; however, without a standardized framework, these goals can vary, and their collective impact may be limited.

To address this challenge, the Net-Zero Standard offers a global guideline aligned with the latest climate research for setting corporate net-zero targets.

For most companies, supply chain emissions represent the most significant and challenging source of emissions to reduce, typically being 11.4 times higher than direct emissions. Large-scale decarbonization of supply chains is, therefore, one of the most effective pathways to achieving global net-zero targets.

By attending this webinar, you will learn about:

  • Understanding the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) - SBTi helps companies align their GHG emissions reduction goals with the Paris Agreement's 1.5°C target. Founded by global organizations like CDP, UN Global Compact, and WWF.

  • Importance of Science-Based Targets - Align corporate climate action with scientific standards. Enhance reputation, gain investor confidence, and drive innovation. Prepare for regulatory changes and market shifts in the low-carbon economy.

  • Steps to Set Science-Based Targets - Commit: Register and agree to compliance policies. Develop: Calculate emissions, set near- and long-term targets. Validate: Submit targets for review by SBTi. Communicate: Share goals with stakeholders. Disclose: Annually report progress.

  • Net-Zero Strategies - Near-term targets: 5-10 years, focused on significant emissions reductions. Long-term targets: Achieve 90% emissions reduction by 2050 before considering offsets.

  • Implementation and Business Benefits - Engage supply chains to address Scope 3 emissions. Increase operational efficiency and reduce costs. Seize opportunities in the transition to a low-carbon economy.
